How long before the move should I unplug my fridge?
Unplug it at least 24 hours before moving day so the freezer compartment defrosts fully and any meltwater can be drained and wiped dry. A fridge with ice or standing water inside will leak during transport and can damage flooring or other items in the lorry.
Do you move a single fridge on its own, or only as part of a house move?
Both. We take standalone fridge, chiller and freezer jobs with a lorry and crew sized to the unit, and we also move fridges as part of a full house move. Tell us the pickup and delivery floor levels when you enquire so we can send the right manpower.
Is my fridge covered by insurance during the move?
Goods in transit insurance is available on fridge moves as an optional add-on arranged when you book. Cover applies to the appliance itself, not to any contents left inside, so please empty the unit before moving day.
Can a fridge be transported lying down?
No. A fridge needs to stay upright for the whole journey. Laying it flat lets the compressor oil drain out of the compressor and into the cooling lines, where it can cause a blockage that damages the cooling system the next time the fridge is switched on. Our movers keep every fridge upright and strapped for this reason, which also means a shorter wait before you can power it up at the other end.
How long should you wait before switching on a fridge after moving?
If the fridge stayed upright throughout the move, let it stand for 4 to 6 hours before you switch it on. This gives the compressor oil time to settle back into place. If the fridge was tilted heavily or laid flat at any point, wait up to 24 hours before powering it up. Our movers transport every fridge upright, so 4 to 6 hours is normally enough.
